She breaks the female stereotype set by other action movies, and she kicks ass. She knows how to use the Lightsaber she quickly learns to use the Force in a terrible situation, and she does not need guys rescuing her unlike a stereotypical female character in an action film. She is skillful with a stick and beats other guys to the ground she knows the electronics of planes as well as Han Solo does and is adept at flying the Millennium Falcon.
Rey is irritated when someone holds her hand to save her, but she does not hesitate to lend a hand to pick up Finn from the ground, or for that matter protecting a droid. But there is more it might be that she is the new Jedi after Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
